My wife and I stopped in for lunch at the Cobblestone yesterday while on a " Windy Day" U.P. Cruise. Couldn't fish so we went for a ride.

Was last here 15 years ago and I think it was better than I remembered.

Excellent hamburger, cold Coke in a can with a big glass of excellent ice. I can't stand bad "gun" pop in bars and we had two hours to get home so we opted out of a beer.  Fries were interesting and surprisingly good.

The owner waited on us and was very gracious.

All this for $22 and clean bathrooms too. We will be back.

We were in the area on a Sunday and decided to stop in based on Yelp reviews. We got there right when they opened at noon. We were seated promptly and given menus. There was a specials board too.

I was hoping to find something vegetarian based on what another reviewer said. However when I asked about the salads, if they had beans they could substitute, the server said they only had grilled or fried chicken. One of the specials was an Asian salad that came with fried chicken, I asked if I could have grilled instead and he acted like it was a horrible inconvenience, but said he could do it. He didn't seem too happy to be there, maybe he was having a bad day.

My boys both got cheeseburgers that they enjoyed and my husband liked his mushroom & swiss burger. My salad was pretty good. The service and food were good, just don't deviate from the menu and you'll be fine.

Great U.P. tavern atmosphere, and despite this place having been around for a long time, very clean and well maintained.  No craft beers on tap, though a few are available in bottles. Upper Hand's UPA was, sadly, out of stock on my visit so I made do with a Bell's Two Hearted.

I ordered a mushroom/swiss burger.  Generally satisfying, though the meat was a little bland and came cooked a bit past medium well when I'd ordered it medium.  Still quite juicy.  What really stood out was that it was hot. As in, when it came the bun was too hot to pick up with my hands.  I had to let it cool a good 3-4 minute before I could comfortably eat it. What caused that, I have no idea.  The bun could have been microwaved, but why?

Despite my singed fingers, I could see returning. They had some offbeat sandwich choices (e.g., hawaiian chicken, lamb gyros), and really, it's just a nice space to soak up some northwoods ambience,

I'm a Yooper who hasn't lived in Michigan for about 20 years. Much has changed...I lost my accent, I don't drive in the snow and I am now vegan. Let's just say it isn't impossible to dine on plant based foods in the U.P. but it isn't exactly easy. I had the opportunity to dine at the Cobblestone with family while visiting my Dad. I was really excited; I have great memories of the bar. It has been open since I was a child and for a short time I lived just two houses down from it. The current owners, Vicky and Dale, have done a lovely job of decorating it (though I could live without the taxidermy!). They have a well stocked bar and offer what you would expect - bar food. Currently, they do not offer any vegan options on the menu though I hope that will change in the future. I ordered a salad with the vegan raspberry vinaigrette dressing and using ingredients that they offered on one of the nightly specials Vicky added black beans, corn and veggies. It was a very tasty salad and I appreciated her interest in working with me to create something special using the ingredients she had in the kitchen. If you are planning to dine out with omnivorous friends and family, this is an excellent option!
